Welcome to Romance Writers of America! We are a business league for writers in the world, with more than 10,000 members. Our member benefits are extensive with advocacy efforts, networking opportunities, and access to industry news and information. Your new member packet contains everything you need to know, but let me summarize some of the highlights of membership.
Romance Writers Report, our monthly magazine, is chock full of articles and tidbits, plus information on writing contests and conferences.
Our RITA Contest, for the published writer, and the Golden Heart Contest, for the unpublished are highly prestigious; each year, their winners and finalists often find their careers taking a giant step forward.
Our award-winning Web site (www.rwanational.org) is where you can find pretty much anything you need to know about our organization, its history, its rules and regulations, the romance genre itself, plus valuable articles and tips on making a success of writing as a career.
PAN (Published Authors Network) members get access to important career information. PRO members (those who have completed and submitted one book, but are not yet eligible for PAN) get the lowdown on agents, editors and everything they need to know to make that all-important first sale.
Our chapters, both local and online, are the heart of our organization. Find out if there is one near you, see if it fits, make new friends and possible critique partners.
Our yearly conference (2010’s is in Nashville, Tennessee) is the place for romance writers to network, to give and take workshops, see friends, and attend our fun-filled, exciting Awards Ceremony.
In addition to these perks of membership, RWA has a professional staff, its own headquarters, and robust volunteer pool. Speaking on behalf of Romance Writers of America, I’m so glad you made the decision to support our purpose, which is to advance the professional interests of career-focused romance writers through networking and advocacy. I wish you every success in your writing career and I know you’ll find RWA a valuable resource in pursuit of your goals.
Sincerely,
Michelle Monkou
