RWA’s 2007 Service Award Winners:
Katy Cooper, Connie Newman,
Pam McCutcheon, and Jennifer Crump
(From July 2007 RWR)
RWA is pleased for the opportunity to recognize four members who have contributed tremendously to this organization with their unending service.
Katy Cooper
Katy began her career as an RWA volunteer at her very first chapter meeting when she bravely stepped up to fill the position of chapter hospitality chair. Since then, she has served on her chapter’s board and on her chapter’s conference committee.
On a national level, she has served on the Bylaws Committee, and she was Workshop Chair for the 2006 National Conference in Atlanta, a huge undertaking that garnered many kudos from Conference attendees. Currently, she is a Chaplink advisor and a member of the Long Range Planning Committee, and she is, once again, serving on her chapter board.
Thank you, Katy, for all your hard work!
Connie Newman
Connie has been a member of RWA for over 10 years, and during that time, she has volunteered for numerous positions in our organization. She is a founding member of the Southern Magic chapter in Birmingham, where she served as their treasurer for two years. In addition, Connie was the co-editor of their newsletter for three years.
On a national level, Connie took on the challenge of RWA treasurer for four years as well as that of chair of the Finance Committee, also for four years. She currently continues to serve RWA as chair of the Long Range Planning Committee.
Thank you, Connie, for all your devoted years of service to RWA!
Pam McCutcheon
Pam is a founding member of PASIC, where she swerved as treasurer and newsletter editor. She is also a founding member of Pikes Peak Romance Writers, where she served on the board in various positions.
Nationally, Pam was a Golden Heart category coordinator (back when RWA had that position), and she has judged the Golden Heart or RITA every year since. Pam served on RWA’s Board as Region Four Director while sitting on six committees at that time, including PAN chair, chairing the Grow the Market Committee, and working on the Ethics Committee. She also chaired the committee that developed the Web site and was the first owner/moderator/coordinator of the first PAN lists/loops. She has tirelessly volunteered at RWA’s National Conferences by stuffing goody bags, collecting tickets, working the editor/agent check in desk, helping with the literacy signing set up, running the bookseller raffle, and even ordered books and supervised RWA’s Conference bookstore. Recently, Pam chaired the committee to redesign the RITA/GH contest, but had to bow out due to a family illness.
Pam, you are extraordinary! Thank you for all your hard work on RWA’s behalf.
Jennifer Crump
Jennifer Crump happened upon RWA six years ago and she considers this organization to be one of the greatest discoveries of her writing life. In 2003 she was elected to the RWA Board as the first RWA PRO Liaison and was determined to help RWA address the business education of its unpublished members. She served as PRO Liaison for two years and she, along with her committee, saw many firsts for PRO: the PRO retreat, PRO booklets, and PRO listservs among others. Jenn also wrote many of the original PRO columns in the RWR. Most recently, she has helped shape RWA’s future by serving on RWA’s Long Range Planning Committee.
